Experiments. In order to know in which material we should perform the casting, we performed 2 experiments. The first was casting in powdered sand only and the second was casting in salt.
In the experiment we realized that the salt sticks to the plaster and produces a texture that is not comfortable to work with and the powdered sand is not stable enough, it dries the plaster quickly and sticks to it.
Therefore, in the final process, we chose to use kinetic sand (sand mixed with resin and talc), which gives stability to the casting and reduces adhesion to the plaster.
While operating the CNC, we examined several ways to create the pattern and saw that pushing the sand does not produce the desired result and the sand falls apart. Therefore, we switched to the method of compacting and compacting the sand.
